Massage School FAQ
- Can I join a massage program at any time?
- In order to keep all of our students at the same pace and ensure we proceed through our curriculum with ease, admissions only occur before class begins. We know the journey one embarks when entering a training program, and wish to honor the journey of our small, private programs. As such, students may not join a class in progress, but are welcome to pre-enroll for a subsequent program.
- What if I want to go to school right now, and don’t want to wait for the next program to begin?

- What modalities are taught?
- We teach MANY modalities up to and including: Swedish, Deep tissue, Sports, Myofascial Release, Crainosacral Therapy, Aromatherapy, Orthopedic Massage, movement therapies, energy meridian manipulation, applied kinesiology, meditation and clearing techniques, feng shui, body mechanics / awareness, holding space, adaptive intuition, complete holistic health systems, self healing philosophies and much more.

- Are there any grants available or some other way to get my education for free?
- Civics 101 informs us that we know you will spend your money on yourself best when it’s your money. In other words if you spend someone else’s money – or your own -but the product or service is for someone else, the idea of quality and price will be at a lesser value and/or not as important. When we spend our money on ourselves, we have the highest innate value placed on that which we spend the money on… so right from the start we encourage high level entrepreneurialism, and encourage you to know you’re placing your money exactly where you want it, and for the reasons you want. Remember in all ways you spend your money, every single instance, you are voting. Period. So what are you voting for, because you also support it. Be informed and live it.
- Is this school accredited?
- No, we are not. The primary reason for this is that we teach many things that are “out-of-the-box”. In order for us to gain accreditation, we would need to conform to certain standards that we don’t agree with and in some cases, are contrary to holistic practice. Since we are a private school with specialized and unique training, we will continue to follow our path. While this may prevent people from receiving certain forms of assistance, we feel it is more important for us to teach what we teach, how we teach it.
- What payment plans are available?
- We hold your credit so we are able to arrange whatever payment plans fit for you. Please keep in mind that we must hold the transcript until payments are made in full.
- How does a student become licensed?
- In the State of Oklahoma, licensure requires a transcript with at least 500 hours, MBLEx testing, a background check from the OSBI, and professional liability insurance.
- How many student massages do the students perform?
- We limit the in-class student massages during the course time to approximately 20. This way we are able to spend more hours throughout the course present with our students in class, keeping the emphasis on the high-level training while not leaving any student behind. Students are encouraged to practice often, and are able to perform as many (or few) supervised massage sessions outside of class hours as they wish.
- Is there a job placement program or assistance?
- Yes! We can help you get started at our clinic or connect students to various other businesses around OKC. We also help to train students to open their own places of practice. We also hold space for graduates to practice within our clinic upon their graduation and licensing.
- What makes Likeminded Therapies different from other massage schools?
- We are owned and operated by therapists. Our goal in opening this school is to share as much as we can with new, up-and-coming therapists. We practice and teach advanced modalities ensuring our students are capable of truly therapeutic techniques. We are less focused on spa-type services and more focused on the therapy aspect of massage. We also teach a holistic approach when it comes to working with others in your chosen path.
- What “extra” do I get from this training?
- Starting in September each student will be able to receive, as part of their tuition, a session with a therapist at Likeminded Therapies including the teaching staff. This is such a benefit to learning this field as you’ll have to do this soon if you join the field. Book with the therapist and receive one on one customized work, as you will be learning to offer yourself! You get to experience not only the work of these skilled professionals as a client, but also with the inquiring mind of a student which in turn deepens the knowing.
- Cool shirt of which we do not sell, they must be gifted to a therapist or student of Likeminded
- 11×17 inch custom art poster for the current year done by local artist and signed upon your graduation by your teachers
- small classes of no more than 12 students in the evening or night program learning side by side with you.
- 3 full time, private practicing professionals instruct and lead the program start to finish. We realize we may not be the only school offering this particular benefit, but it’s good to know.
- Special guest experts of related fields to the art of Massage ranging from Custom oil blends class with a board certified aromatherapists to emotion/body code and sound and light therapies!
( and anybody else we might find that fits well into a program for their particular skill sets, and Contemplative teachings.) - We lead by example. We consider our paths just that, a path. And we live it. And when we live it, we teach by default by example.
- Is Likeminded Therapies a state licensed school?
- We are licensed through the Oklahoma Board of Private Vocational Schools.
- What credentials will I graduate with?
- You will graduate with a transcript of 500 hours, which is required for licensure. As with most massage schools, we are unable to provide “certification” in any particular modality. This is a goal to achieve after graduation from a massage school.
- Can anyone take CEU classes?
- All classes that teach advanced massage techniques do require a good working knowledge. Courses that do not, are open to anyone.
- Other great practices for being well informed:
- Ask around!
- You might be surprised how word of mouth still travels superbly even among our “seemingly online everything world”
- Ask friends, family, coworkers, massage therapists you know, anybody you feel might have a clue for you about what they’ve heard about schools and training levels. All the while understanding your source, in other words as a free thinker, take all input with a grain of salt and think for your self by informing yourself with discernment.
- Can you meet your teachers first to get to know them a bit?
- Make sure the skills they offer are those you wish to learn.
- Most of the time this could present a challenge with busy life schedules, however a sure fire way to go about this is to book a a session with teachers at the school. Wisdom is knowing or knowledge integrated and thus applied.
- Feel and notice their touch as they work with you. This is such good practice to the degree we can’t just tell you what Massage is because it is experience, and without that we are left with mere words.
- Book a session with a student from the school.
- Knowing they are on the journey in which you are considering, ask them questions about their learning/understanding all the while getting to experience and feel for yourself what is being taught.
- Please remember that having a practice is just that. We must all (us included) practice, and continue practicing.
- The students touch may not be as skilled as that of the teaching staff (as practice and integration takes time), yet can still create a good approximation vicariously throughout the student therapy interaction.
- Online searches can be a great source. We know we don’t have a large presence in social media platforms and are fine by this. That said we do our best and there are many things that can be learned by searching around the internet for a while. And like we all know, just cause it was said in the internet will never imply truth. Good or bad, right or wrong, We are to learn to discern for ourselves. To this we welcome all feedback with open arms and appreciation for it helps us grow, always, in all ways.
- Ask around!
